YMI is proud to host the premiere of Urban Renewal Impact, a powerful new film from filmmaker Todd Gragg and researcher Priscilla Robinson. Building on their acclaimed documentary Black in Asheville, this film uncovers the lasting impact of urban renewal on Asheville’s Black community.
Through firsthand accounts, historical research, and striking visuals, Urban Renewal Impact reveals how city policies—once framed as “progress”—led to the loss of Black homes, businesses, and generational wealth. The film connects Asheville’s story to a larger national reckoning, showing how Black communities across America were uprooted in the name of development.
More than a history lesson, Urban Renewal Impact invites reflection and dialogue. It challenges us to confront the wounds of the past while asking what justice and responsibility mean today.
Join us at YMI for this important premiere and be part of the conversation.
