The Workforce Development Program here at the YMI Cultural Center we work with individuals who are unemployed or underemployed and want an opportunity at success for not only their personal goals, but also those they care deeply about. We connect clients with resources to address barriers through our community partnerships!

YMI Cultural Center’s Partnerships In Equity Program is designed to bring racial awareness and intentional cultural change into the work environment. YMICC is committed to partnering with organizations that desire a more inclusive work environment, with retention of African American citizens as viable and contributing members of their agencies.

Business Incubation
YMICC is committed to economic development and entrepreneurship for Black individuals and communities. Through this program entrepreneurs will receive six (6) months to one (1) year of business incubation support that will include business development training, start-up advice and capacity building funding, as well as, mentorship opportunities. We are interested in you and your business ideas. Apply for the 2023 Business Incubation program below.
The GET IN SHAPE program is a black-led program that promotes healthy living through exercise and yoga. This exercise program helps participants at all levels fitness become more active, energized, and empowered to sustain independent lives. Get In Shape focuses on stretching, flexibility, balance, low impact aerobics, and strength training exercises.

Black Experience Book Club
The YMI cultural Center and Buncombe County Public libraries have partnered to create a book club focusing on modern Black authors and readers. Look at our Events page to keep up with upcoming books.
Readers will meet the last Thursday of every month at 6:30 PM at New York electives located on the block. Contact alexandria for more information.
Successful Transitions helps participants develop financial management skills and attributes linked to employability, personal and career development, and the motivation to continue to learn throughout their professional and personal lives. Topics covered include wealth building, credit, and pathways to homeownership.

The purpose of the “Real Estate Apprenticeship Program (REAP) is to remove perceived in real barriers to careers in real estate for historically marginalized populations in the Asheville area through efforts promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The purpose of this program is to increase home ownership and western NC. Through this initiative, we will work with prospective homebuyers to prepare them for homeownership. This program is specific to marginalized community members as an effort to help address the wealth gap through homeownership.
